After the screening, you will get a clear overview of your strengths and working points. Our doctor will check that you can exercise safely through a sports medical examination.
The purpose of a sports medical assessment is to check through a questionnaire, clinical research and EKG whether you can exercise safely.
The research focuses on indications of congenital or acquired heart and lung disease, in order to minimize the risk of sudden death during exercise.
In addition, attention is paid to the suitability for a particular sport. Or, in other words, is there no increased risk of developing overload injuries?
The results of this sport test are centrally stored on the platform of SKA (Association for Sport and Veterinary Practitioners).
For this review, you need to bring your ID card.

What can you expect?

Prior to your fitness test, you need to fill out this validated gevalideerde sportmedische vragenlijst and bring along the result. Depending on the result (green, orange or red) an advice will be given to do a sports medical examination.

  • Green light: a sports medical examination is not necessary, your fitness test can continue
  • Orange / red light: a sportmedisch onderzoek is mandatory before your fitness test can continue, via an SKA sports doctor or at Golazo Energy

Please note: if you have not yet completed the questionnaire at the time of your fitness test, you can fill it in on the spot, but your fitness test will NOT be able to take place when the result is orange or red.

Through an intake interview with a coach from Golazo Energy and sports physiotherapist from REV, you will go over your sports and medical history.

Through a comprehensive physical examination, we look at the balance of the body. The various tests give us insight into mobility, flexibility, stability, strength and jumping power. We look for imbalances in the body and give specific advice on your weak links, linked to the requirements of your sport.

This is followed by an initial measurement via a DEXA scan. This scan will determine your body composition. From the DEXA-scan the following values will be determined, among others:

  • Fat percentage & lean mass in the whole body & body part
  • Bone density and weight of your total bone mass
  • Weight of each body part, this also allows for example comparing muscle mass left & right.

Afterwards, we map the lungs and lung capacity via a Powerbreathe K2 device. We record vital capacity and measure respiratory muscle strength. Through this analysis, we can give specific advice towards possible respiratory muscle training

We stimulate sweat glands locally on the forearm to analyse a sample of sweat. We determine osmolality and the amount of sodium per litre of sweat. This way, you can fine-tune the amount of minerals in sports drinks.

This followed by a short running test on the treadmill. During the test, the speed is increased every 4 minutes and we determine your lactic acid values. The maximum oxygen uptake (VO2 Max) is also recorded. Based on these measurements, physiological thresholds are determined, and you discover your personal heart rate zones to gain more insight into your training zones.

After the screening, you will receive a detailed overview of your test results with your strengths, weaknesses and areas for improvement and personal advice from the coach. You are now all set to get going and achieve your sporting goals!
